I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but figure I'll put in my two cents. This is ridiculous. Certain blogs in the League of Liberals are cross-posting their sitemeters to inflate hits. How juvenile and ridiculous is this? Their entire purpose seems to be to falsely inflate their own importance. I'd be ashamed to be part of such a group, even if it is only a minority of their membership doing this. What is the point? What could you possibly hope to accomplish?
It's like I told a friend of mine when we were talking about some people who are too competitive in co-ed leisure softball leagues...there is no World Series for park and recreation softball. There is no Hall of Fame. It is supposed to be FUN and EXERCISE and that is IT.
There is no Hall of Fame of blogging. There is no Stanley Cup. There is no signing bonus or cash prize. The point of blogging is to say what you want to say and hopefully find an audience for your blather.
The PB suggested I should have my sitemeter posted on my old blog to pick up the Google hits there, and I told him I thought that was wrong. Yes, it is my work and yes they are my hits, but they're not "real" hits in my book. I have no doubt in my mind that the League members who cross-posted their sitemeters knew exactly what they were doing. And they knew it was wrong.
There is no prize to be won. The only things they accomplished were making themselves look like an ass...and hurting the reputations of the honest members of their League.
Posted by Jennifer at November 30, 2003 03:56 AMThat's pretty darn juvenile and ridiculous.
About what I'd expect from the League of Losers.
Posted by: Pixy Misa at November 30, 2003 08:42 AMAmen, Jen! But what can you expect from a group (excepting Norbizness and maybe one or two others) that has no sense of humor? Folks without a sense of humor take everything way too seriously....
Posted by: Susie at November 30, 2003 09:33 AMI don't get it, why jockey for hits? I dont' read blogs because they have big numbers, I read them for the content.
Posted by: Sgt Hook at November 30, 2003 10:35 AMThis is a perfect example of the "Win at any Cost" lefty-liberal attitude.
From what I've experienced, the right may get nasty, but tends to play by the spirit of the rules, while the left tends to look for loopholes and twisted interpretations to "win", even when its something that doesn't really matter.

I also suggested having the hits on your old blog count only because this site is continuous with the old one... just saying... but your hit count is super high anyway...
Posted by: PB at November 30, 2003 03:26 PMKynn, You are right.
PB, the only thing I get over there are Google and other search engine hits...they're not actual readers, really. So the only reason to put my sitemeter there is to pump up my hits. The blog-city counter keeps track of what they're looking for in case I want to check on that.
Posted by: Jennifer at November 30, 2003 03:51 PMI've worked pretty hard the last 6 months to try and get any readership at all; the few people that actually link to me are a bonus. It's been a hoot watching my blog inch its way up the Ecosystem. Never would have occurred to me to try and cheat. What would be the point? Any "victory" achieved would have been devoid of any meaning or sense of accomplishment on my part. Of course, if "winning is the only thing", you might think otherwise.
Posted by: physics geek at December 2, 2003 01:09 PMI'll second Kynn's comment. I "broke the story," and it turned out to be ONE blogger with about 6-7 blogs. Thus when the cheating was spotted on those blogs, it seemed to be widespread across the League.
