Christmas Leftovers

I know literally hundreds tens none of you are wondering what I did for Christmas. I hate to say it wasn't this interesting. For starters, I had all my clothes on throughout Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Well, in "public" anyway...after all, there were kids around!

In my family we have the family gifts on Christmas Eve, and Santa gifts on Christmas Day. I had told my niece (who will be 4 years old in a month) that after we had dinner on Christmas Eve, we could open the presents under the tree. So after dinner while we were cleaning up, she went over and sat right next to the tree and waited rather patiently.

Unwrapping commenced, with my nephew (2 years old) not quite knowing what to do with the gifts. He couldn't be tempted into tearing open the paper, so his sister was more than happy to open his gifts for him. (She also tried to open everyone else's gifts.)

Amidst a sea of wrapping paper and toys, the kids were pretty hyper and tried to play with all the toys at once. For the next few hours, we put the assembly-required toys together and showed the little ones how to play with some of the more complicated gifts.

The PB called while I was still over at the house, and we talked briefly. His cell phone was terrible, but it was really nice to hear his voice. :-)

Then it was bedtime for the kids and I cleaned up the house a bit and went home...played on the computer for awhile, took a hot bath, and went to bed. Too early the next morning, the phone rang.

Back to the house, more gifts, more hyper kids, and even more toys needing batteries and assembly. After all, Santa brings the really cool gifts. We had breakfast, cleaned up the wrapping paper and other garbage, played with the kids a bit, and then Auntie Jen took a nap.

Dinner was tasty. Dad did most of the cooking. My brother had the comics under his plate and was more interested in them than in the rest of us. Typical. After dinner, Mom went to call her mother (Grandma lives in Nevada) and my sister, Dad, and I played Phase 10. The kids were playing with their new toys and their father (my brother) was upstairs watching tv or something.

In between checking on the kids and getting various munchies from the kitchen, we had a good game...Dad ended up winning. Then I spent some more time playing with the kids and talking to Mom and decided it was time to go home. The PB called (on his bad cell phone again, sigh) and after we got off the phone I went to sleep happy.

Not exciting, but it was a pretty good Christmas. I hope everyone else had a pleasant one, too.
