When I read AOL news (I won't bother providing a link since it won't work unless you're on AOL) this morning, there was a story about Joel Steinberg being released from prison.

Michele has a post on the subject with links.

For every story about Child Protective Services taking a child from their parents without just cause, there are stories about children who aren't taken from their parents when they should be. I don't know what the fix is for the system, but it's the only one we have.

If you suspect a child is being abused, call someone.
1-800-4-A-CHILD / 1-800-422-4453
is one national abuse hotline.
(More Information Here.)

Your call may not help, but imagine how you would feel if you never even tried.

The microscope that people like Steinberg and Cary Verse (local pedophile just released from prison) live under means that, if they spit on the sidewalk, they'll get tossed back in prison.

Doesn't mean I have any interest in having him anywhere near me or anyone I know. But the scrutiny means that most that will repeat their crimes will go to jail for the rest of their lives.

In Steinberg's case, he should have been put to death. But that's just me, I wholeheartedly support the death penalty for many crimes.
