Where Does It End?

Oh. My. God.. Non-denominational Higher Being Who May or May Not Exist. Stars.

Seriously, is it that difficult to exercise some common sense? There's political correctness and then there's this nonsense...

A California teacher has been barred by his school from giving students documents from American history that refer to God -- including the Declaration of Independence.

...
"It's a fact of American history that our founders were religious men, and to hide this fact from young fifth-graders in the name of political correctness is outrageous and shameful," said Williams' attorney, Terry Thompson.

...
Williams asserts in the lawsuit that since May he has been required to submit all of his lesson plans and supplemental handouts to Vidmar for approval, and that the principal will not permit him to use any that contain references to God or Christianity.

Among the materials she has rejected, according to Williams, are excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, George Washington's journal, John Adams' diary, Samuel Adams' "The Rights of the Colonists" and William Penn's "The Frame of Government of Pennsylvania."

(Seen at Laurence Simon's.)

Now, it is possible that the teacher is a complete wackadoo...but no matter how he's presenting the information, the banning of the Declaration in a history class raises some serious questions.

The Founders were not religious people as we now think of it, I'd say. They were mostly Deists. Of course, that inconvenient fact would obscure the message that this teacher is trying to convey. None of which makes banning the Declaration a sensible act.

I have come to expect this, coming from the left coast, But what will be next? How long will it be before someone insists on piling bibles in their town squares and burning them? What are they scared of anyhow? Give the kids the facts and let them make an informed decision.
