Memory Lane

Susie once complained that my middle column is too small. I filed that away to be dealt with at a later date.

It's a later date.

As part of my New Year redesign, I resurrected the old blue design that Spork misses so much (see, I also filed that away...I do listen to you people).

I also made a place where I can redecorate all I like while annoying as few readers as possible.

These two skins only work on the main page...I'm not ambitious enough to match individual pages, comments, and whatnot. Plus I don't think there's really a need for it.

When I do finally put up the new redesign*, I'll try to keep myself from messing with it too much. There will be links to all these fun new pages, and I'll try to keep things as simple as possible.

* January 1st, barring any unforeseen mishaps on New Year's Eve.

I like the electric orange lizard skin one but you need to change the font color in the sidebar. The orange text for syndicate and MT credit are lost in the background.

I read the best width was roughly that of a paperback book. (Apparantly 450pixels). On my screen your middle column is about perfect.
Its your text size thats too big!

Jim, that would be the link color, and I decided I didn't care. :-)

Monjo, my browser lets me change font sizes under the "View" tab. How about yours? (And I think Susie has an 800 x 600 resolution on her screen, which would make my middle column smallish.)

Oh, and the orange one is actually micro-organisms under a microscope. So it's all science-y.

Yeah, but I tend to leave it on 'medium'. Whereas IMO your site looks best at 'smallest', but I am lazy to change.

And yeah 800*600 would cause a problem. My site is 780pixels wide, but I use always absolute (and quite small) rather than relative font sizes - which some people say is bad for accessibility. But how many blind people come to my site anyway?? I think none, so I dont worry.

The problem is you can never please everyone. Your site is 'busy' so just having two columns wont really work, and if you have three then you have a few choices, none of which is perfect.
One thing to consider looking at you CSS is that you use 230px for each side (plus borders), throw in the few pixels lost to the web browser and on an 800px resolution, the middle section is down to about 300.

Anyway, keep up the good work on the content... cos Content is King!

Yes, well, the "busy" should be gone in two days.
:-)

:) I've enjoyed the seasonal designs immensely, but I am still fond of the old blue. And at least yer designs aren't as busy as Susie or Misha's! Yeeeesh, they take forever to load...
