1776--Thomas Paine's Common Sense was published.

1878--Women's Suffrage Amendment introduced into Congress by A.A. Sargent. (Would not be ratified until August 26, 1920.)

1920--League of Nations founded.

1946--First United Nations General Assembly meeting.
