Welcome to the Friday edition of Lyrical Pursuit. Today is double day. We start with an easy one and then get a more challenging one later on. Double Day is cancelled as Jim's Friday plans changed and he has to go pimp up shortly.
Have at it!
(Da Rules)
Please baby can't you see Im trying to explain Ive been here before and I'm locking the door And I'm not going back again
Bonus point: Name the album that the artist dedicated "To my father with all my love".
Clue #1: Expanded lyric.
Jen's Freebie Clue: It's a chick breakup song.
Clue #2: David Crosby is her baby daddy.
Clue #3: S.O. is Tammy Lynn Michaels but Julie Cypher was her baby momma.
Clue #4: Her name rhymes with Alyssa Betheridge.
Clue #5: Is Jen the only one who likes this song?
Just say "NO" to Google!
Posted by Jim at October 3, 2008 08:53 AM | TrackBackOMG, I still *love* that song.
Posted by: Jennifer at October 3, 2008 10:55 AMI know the song and the artist, and because I've never liked said song; I'm opting to withhold my answer.
Because winning a war is more important to me than winning a Lyrical Pursuit.
Posted by: shank at October 3, 2008 11:02 AMThat is the dumbest thing I ever heard.
This song is teh awesome. It's in the Top Three Girlie Breakup Songs: Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know", Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive", and this.
So, like, free clue.
Posted by: Jennifer at October 3, 2008 11:10 AMRight... Anybody who knows the answer and doesn't post it for some weird conceptual reason that nobody else gives a flying fig about is a bit off in my book.
Posted by: Jim at October 3, 2008 11:25 AMI'm more than a bit off. Just let the record show.
But to make my original point:
This artist just had so much other great music that never got any air play because all anyone ever wanted to hear was paltry breakup music. A string of cliches set to music. It was like being forced to read the same issue of Seventeen when all you really wanted to do was wander through an Emerson anthology.
And also because I'm feeling punchy today. Someone said something to me yesterday that got under my skin; and I got up today feeling contentious.
Posted by: shank at October 3, 2008 12:02 PMI wasn't talking about you, shank. I was talking about Jen.
:P
So, shank... Do you often get the urge to wander through an Emerson anthology? This would explain a lot.
Posted by: Jim at October 3, 2008 12:06 PMAm I the only one (cough, cough) who thinks I shouldn't play my own game? It just seems wrong.
Posted by: Jennifer at October 3, 2008 12:52 PMAnd also, Shank? Grow a pair.
Posted by: Jennifer at October 3, 2008 12:53 PMYup. You're the only one. Besides, for October it's MY game.
Posted by: Jim at October 3, 2008 01:16 PMI like clue #4. It was funny.
Which is unusual for this blog.
Posted by: shank at October 3, 2008 06:19 PMGrumpy Grumps aside...can I guess? Cuz I totally know it.
Posted by: De at October 4, 2008 10:06 AMOh nevermind...I didn't read on.
