Lyrical Pursuit - 11/20

Let's all get up and guess the lyrics to a song that was a hit before your mother was born, although she was born...oh, wait, I have no way of knowing when your mother was born.

Ok, let's use a song that was a hit before I was born (though only just, so if it was indeed a hit before your mother was born, you don't need to rub it in.)

Help a poor man build a pretty dream

I'm guessing that by now you know the rules and wouldn't go cheating even if I forgot to remind you.

Let's go to the clues, then!

Wow, it's been so long since you needed clues, I can't remember how much time to allow between 'em. Here's clue #2:

Clue #1 wasn't a red herring; I was trying to suggest an instrument, a particularly colorful one at that.
